Costa Rica Unlimited Dirt Bike Tours FAQ

How much does the Costa Rica Unlimited experience cost?
Most tours are between $2,600-$3,300 (USD) Sample pricing can be found on the TOURS tab. With CRU, your options are "Unlimited'. For an estimate for your ideal tour, please call or email with your ideal Number of Nights, Number of Riding Days, and Number of Riders and we can provide more accurate Tour Options/Pricing.
How far in advance do we need to book a Tour?
Depends on Number of Riders, but assume December-April sells out 6 months to 1 year in advance (All the snow state and Canadian riders!) and other months about 3-5 months in advance.
Are families/non-riders welcome; extra costs?
Yes, we are completely set up for non-riders as well. Typically, we charge $160 per night per non-rider; assumes one per paying rider.
Where can I learn even more about CRU Tours-Other Social Sites?
Check out CRU's YouTube , Facebook , and Instagram and Follow Us!
What towns do we visit on the 'Loop Tours'?
The following is an outline for the 7 Day Costa Rica Unlimited ‘Travel Tour‘. The agenda describes a typical tour and locations but can be modified based on weather conditions (ex: overflowing rivers) and riders ability and endurance. Learn more here.

Primary Towns: San Jose, Playa Hermosa, Alajuela, Tamarindo, Manual Antonio, Jaco
Should I rent a 4×4?
Yes, we strongly recommend renting a 4×4 vehicle. The driveway to the CRU Compound (Point, Jungle, Kaya and Blue Homes) is quite steep plus there are always fun dirt roads to explore everywhere in Costa Rica. Rent a 4×4, its worth it!
Do you have Internet/WiFi?
Yes, we have internet and WiFi connection. Feel free to forward your motorcycle adventure pictures to jealous friends back home.
Other activities Non-Riders can do near the house?
CRU adventures continue after you’re done riding.

Activities include horseback riding, water vehicles, golfing, butterfly farm tours, crocodile tours, tow-in surfing, mountain biking and a relaxing waterfall hike straight from our house.

Additionally, the main town of Jaco is only 15 minutes north with plenty of shopping, nightlife, casinos, poker rooms and shopping.

Of course, its hard to beat simply relaxing on the beach.

CRU works with Carton Surfboards in Jaco and they rent surfboards of all shapes and sizes and boogie boards and will give you great deal by the hour for rentals and for surfing lessons.
Does Costa Rica Unlimited offer one-day riding trips?
At this time, the answer is ‘not really’. You must book a tour with Costa Rica Unlimited in order to ride new KTM, Husqvarna, & GASGAS. We do not allow “walk-up” tourists to rent our bikes.
Weather.com says it may rain!
At this time the weather reporting is from San Jose, the middle of the country where the humidity, mountains, weather patterns do produce rain at times throughout the day. On the coast, the skies are clearer and the rain, if it arrives, comes in the evening. It is almost normal that weather reports are completely off!
Is pricing flexible?
We do our best to keep costs as low as possible for our guests. Other tours may have lower rates but the bikes can be complete junk making for a painful riding day and the rooms they put you up in are more inland, away from the beach.

We use new '25 HUSKY FE 350, ’25 HUSKY TE 300, ’25 GAS GAS EC350, ’24 GAS GAS EC350, ’24 KTM EXC 300 two and four-strokes and the accommodations, right up above the Pacific Ocean, are incredible. How much would you charge a stranger to take your race bike for a full day riding? When you add our guides, service, location, and reputation, CRU delivers the riding vacation of your dreams.

Obviously the further out you reserve your trip, the more riding days and the more riders, the better pricing we can offer. We also extend discounts for return trips and have been known to offer the deepest discounts for customers who promote their trips and Costa Rica Unlimited on personal YouTube pages, Facebook, twitter and other social media!
Can I bring my own surfboards?
Of course! We have some of the best surf in the country right in Hermosa with water in the high 80s almost year-round. When we're not riding we are probably out surfing. Airlines will charge you a fee for the board and we would ask that you tell us in advance so we have the right size shuttle to pick or racks when we pick you up. We also have a great contact at Carton Surfboards in the town of Jaco and he'll always extend large discounts on boards / surfing lessons.
What is the best time of year to visit?
For hardcore off-road riders Costa Rica can be ridden year round. While less prevalent on the coast than the middle of the country, the rainy season does last from August – October. Rain during this season typically starts in late afternoon, lets off and and then starts again in early evening. If you’re doing a Guys Trip, the occasional showers is almost a blessing on the trails. If you’re doing Family Trip its best to visit us November-July.
What if I forget some of my riding gear?
There are small motorcycle shops in San Jose and we have back up gear but try to pack correctly, your well-being is vital to us!
Describe in general what the tours do.
We explore Costa Rica, ride every imaginable terrain, visit insane locations, provide first-class, catered, accommodations, and offer a myriad of additional adventure sports. You hop on your GAS GAS, KTM or Yamaha and ride the coast, the jungle, the mountains and have the best vacation ever. The trails, scenery, and adventure Costa Rica provides off-road enthusiasts are unparalleled. Casual backroads, “A” loop enduro’s, river crossings, beaches, jungle single-track, to the kids in the villages screaming for you to do a wheelie, we hope the Costa Rica Unlimited experience stays with our guests forever.
How often do you run tours?
We run tours year-round. The weather is basically 80 degrees and the only months that you may want to avoid (if brining family/non-riders) would be Sept/October as it can rain most afternoons. We typically run 1-2 tours per week and request tours between December-March be reserved between 6 months and 1-year in advance.
What kind of bikes do you use?
We have a solid fleet of new '25 HUSKY FE 350, ’25 HUSKY TE 300, ’25 GAS GAS EC350, ’24 GAS GAS EC350, ’24 KTM EXC 300 two and four-strokes. We have between 18-22 total tour bikes and rotate our fleet every 6 months or so; you're never riding old junk!.
Do I need a motorcycle licensee?
No, as we ride off-road, a license is not required.
Is there an age requirement?
No, but riders must be able to ride a 250F; our smallest bike.
How many riders can be on each tour?
This all depends on the group. We have hosted groups of ten that we split off into smaller groups, we have hosted 15 for a television program and we recently hosted 20+ for a motorcycle tire company sales event. That said, the most ideal group is between 4-8 friends who ride or race together on the weekends and are looking for a new challenge.
Can you customize the rides based on rider ability? Split people up in groups?
Costa Rica Unlimited customizes every aspect of the tour. If a group has fast and slower riders, as most do, one group with go a guide on the tough single track, the other group will go with a guide on easier fire roads and at each village, we meet up and then split up again on the trail. This is dependent on Number of Riders in the Group as well
How long are the rides?
8:45am-3:15 pm...however; how strong is your body? We’ve had guys like Ronnie Renner, Russell Bobbitt, David Pingree, Jimmy Lewis, Ricky Johnson, Mike Metzger, and Danny LaPorte that want to ride from sunrise to sunset and we’ve had corporate executives that want an intense 2-3 hour loop followed by hours in the hammock on the beach. It’s always your call.
How are the medical facilities in the area?
The medical facilities are first rate. Baylor University has a hospital in San Jose, there is a newer facility in Jaco, and a new medical facility in the Marriot’s ‘Los Suenos’ community.
Do the guides have Satellite Phones?
We no longer need Satellite Phones. Cell service is great and lead/chase guides always carry cell phones. Some groups (businesses) choose to add an EMT on retainer which is an option at an extra cost and planned 15 days in advance of tour.
